Job Title: Institute Cabin Counselor (1½ week position)
Reports to: Institute Division Director
Position Purpose: The Institute Cabin Counselor is the primary caregiver for students in their cabin and throughout the camp division. The counselor is responsible for the safety of students in their care, collaborating with divisional staff to plan and carry out recreational activities, and to guide students in their personal growth during the program. Cabin counselors are also responsible for explaining and establishing expectations for camper behavior and adhering to Interlochen Arts Camp policies for campers and staff.
Essential Job Functions: Institute cabin counselors are responsible for the direction and supervision of students in their cabin. Counselors attend daily staff meetings and evening activities for students while maintaining high standards for their physical and emotional health and safety at all times. Counselors are expected to serve as a role model to students and staff in attitude, behavior, and actions.
Other Job Duties: Institute staff assist with supervision of the division including: staffing headquarters (answering phone calls, taking messages, submitting work orders, updating the running log, responding to student issues as they arise, and sharing appropriate information with staff and division leadership), roving the division to ensure that campers are safe and within established boundaries, and assists in the planning of one (1) evening activity during the program.

Qualifications: Staff must be 18 years of age and/or have graduated from high school by June 12th, 2010. Staff must have a desire to work with youth, a willingness to live in a cabin and work in a rustic camp environment, an understanding of the developmental needs of youth, and an ability to relate to youth and adults in a positive and respectful manner.
Compensation: $280 including room and board (Dates: 6/16-6/25)
