Purpose of the Interlochen Guitar Institute ::

A message from Guitar Institute Director John Wunsch

In developing this year’s offerings for the Interlochen Guitar Institute I had six guiding goals in mind.

I. Bring the joy of the guitar alive for all who attend
II. Provide something important for all levels ofguitarist.

III. Present predominantly “hands on the guitar” experiences for our classes.

IV. Present a wide variety of styles and auxiliary topics

V. Offer classes and material from which participants can inspire and nurture their own development on the guitar through the coming year. Workshops will provide material to be taken home to keep the learning alive.

IV. Add lecture demo and survey classes to both broaden the horizons of players and enhance the non playing aficionado’s love of guitar.

I think we have accomplished all of this and invite you to be a part of this guitar lover’s opportunity. The concerts and classes will include classical, jazz, flamenco, world music, song writing, rock 'n ' roll and acoustic artists and instructors.
We also have offerings in music business, recording, guitar construction, and instrument maintenance on our schedule.  Many of the skills you gain will apply to any style of music on the guitar. Morning workshops will primarily provide targeted skill classes on beginner, intermediate and advanced intermediate levels. The afternoons will start with a specialized technique hour that can provide value at all level of experience, and then move into hands on workshops with widely renowned and extensively experienced artists along with some lecture demo sessions. These Institute offerings will provide refinement and direction to advanced players, new concepts for the advancement of intermediate players, and invaluable inspiration to ignite the future of any beginner’s life with the guitar. All this will be capped off with evening concerts where you can see it all come to life, through a wide variety of music in the hands of excellent artists.

Travel north to the beauty of Interlochen’s campus and become a part of every guitar aficionado’s goal, a world of beautiful music, improving skills and new guitar comrades.
