This five-day institute concentrates on the professional development of the emerging composer. Each day’s activities will include two seminars on topics such as performer/conductor/composer relations, publishing, recording, grants and prizes, performance opportunities, professional societies, vita writing, job interviewing, etc. In addition to the seminars, composers will be asked to write a piece specifically for The Institute Chamber Players. During the institute, participants will conduct and rehearse their pieces while being coached by the institute faculty on rehearsal and baton techniques. Tuition (does not include room and meals): $549 before March 1; $579 after March 1. Full tuition payment is due two weeks after official notice of acceptance into the institute.
Institute Enrollment: Each institute is limited to 10 participants.
Criteria for Admission: The Institute is open to composers from 18-30 years of age.
If the applicant is a superior performer and is willing to be a part of the Institute Chamber players, a tuition discount will be given. A performance CD must accompany the application.
Depending on the current stage of the composer’s development (i.e. college, free-lancer), sufficient talent, ability to be prolific and creative, and potential for success must be evident.
Application Process: Completed registration form and application form.
Two representative scores with corresponding compact disc recording (no tapes, no MIDI).
One recommendation which includes a letter expounding on the potential of the applicant to be a successful composer and the completed recommendation form (second page of the application form).

Cancellation/Refund Policy: Cancellation/Refund Policy: No tuition refunds will be given after May 1 far any reason unless another participant is available to take the opening. All refunds will be less 7.5% for processing. If an under-subscribed event is canceled, all refunds are 100%.
Housing and Meals: Lodging is available on the Interlochen campus on a first-come, first-served basis. Accommodations are available in the McWhorter residence hall for $21 per night (double). These rooms include private entrances and private bathrooms. Meals also may be taken on-campus and are available by package or individual meals.
