“A very informative and fun learning experience that can help anyone grow in their playing abilities."
Jas McHugh, 2006-2007 Interlochen Guitar Institute Participant
We welcome all levels of ability and non playing aficionados to enjoy this experience. Based on your self-identified playing level, a recommended schedule session guide for beginning, intermediate or advanced levels of ability is available to help each participant decide what sessions would be most beneficial and not over their ability level. For 2008, we have expanded the offered sessions for beginning level players as well as providing some tablature support materials, expanding technique topics and adding opportunities for participants to jam and practice. All participants will still be able to choose sessions ala cart to customize their experience at the Interlochen Guitar Festival Workshop.
All classes are labeled as beginning, intermediate, advanced or all levels. Some classes are appropriate for both intermediate and advanced and labeled as such. In assessing your choices of courses and levels keep the following in mind:
Beginning: This is for those who have very limited experience. This includes those who
have never played or just started playing and is geared to them and to others who have less than one year of experience. Download beginning schedule session guide here.
Intermediate: These courses are geared to the person who is comfortable with the guitar, but needs more knowledge and skills (this is a level where many adults find themselves). In addition one may be an advanced player in one style, but want to explore other styles or skills for the first time and in that case the intermediate classes in that style will be appropriate. Download intermediate schedule session guide here.
Advanced: These classes are geared to those who have experience and base skills in the particular style or skill being presented. These courses will build on the participants established background with the intention of presenting further information and approaches for the style or topic. Download advanced schedule session guide here.
All levels: Many courses are in a lecture demonstration format and therefore are open to all levels, including non playing aficionados. While some of these courses will cover advanced concepts as well as important basics, one’s playing ability is not prerequisite to gaining insight into the topic and taking advantage of the material being presented.
