Overview
Intermediate vocal students will perform in choirs, small ensembles and music dramas. Students develop performance skills through the Intermediate Vocal Ensemble, which emphasizes literature that is appropriate for adolescents. Vocal Arts students also participate in an opera-workshop class. Solo and small ensemble skills are combined with experiences in theatre to create an operetta production.
Details
- Intermediate Vocal Ensemble performs advanced choral literature for young vocal musicians. All students in this ensemble are enrolled in the Vocal Arts Program.
- Intermediate Choir is a larger ensemble experience that includes singers from across the camp.
- Sight-singing and music theory classes improve all-around musicianship skills.
- Operetta Workshop is a two-period block where students work on solos, small ensembles and theatre skills. The workshop culminates with an operetta performance.
- One additional elective
Note: Private voice lessons are not available to Intermediate students.
Audition Requirements
- Select two audition pieces from the classical, art song or folk song vocal repertoire. Musical theatre, popular, karaoke or original compositions will not be accepted.
- Record your performance (with piano accompaniment) on a standard-size CD or DVD. DVDs are preferred.
- Submit the recording and label the CD or DVD and its casing with the applicant's full name, audition repertoire and the program notation "Intermediate Vocal Arts."
