Overview

The Advanced Drawing Program is a three-week program for students with previous drawing experience and established skills. The program focuses exclusively on drawing.

The session will begin with a review of basic drawing foundations and techniques and will move on to advanced topics such as approaches to drawing from life and methods of abstraction in drawing. Students will explore composition, process, materials, and the elements of drawing and contemporary design. Instruction in figure drawing will emphasize the structure and function of human anatomy, as well as emotional and psychological approaches to depicting the human form. Participation in the weekly Open Figure Drawing Studio is encouraged.

PLEASE NOTE: Advanced Drawing Program students may not select additional electives.

Portfolio Requirements

  • Submit a minimum of five images: photographs, slides, or digital images that represent your highest quality of work. Three pieces must be made from observation and may be in any medium.
  • Submit the portfolio by mail, presented in slide or photography format, in clear plastic sleeves, with the applicant’s full name and program clearly indicated on each item.

Portfolio materials will not be returned. Applicants who submit a portfolio for the Advanced Drawing Program and wish to continue into the three-week Advanced Painting Program do not need to submit another portfolio.
