Overview
The All-State Band program is open to Michigan students who are currently in grades 9-12. All-State Band musicians rehearse and perform college-level repertoire and receive individual instruction from leading music educators. Music seminars cover ear-training, performance anxiety, applying for college, audition skills, and chamber music instruction. View Summer 2008 repertoire list.
All-State Band participants may choose one of the following electives:
- Jazz Band
- Chamber Music
- Theory/Composition
- Beginning Piano
- Beginning Conducting

Audition and Application Instructions
1) Prepare an audition
All applicants must audition unless they are returning All-State students and have received a formal audition waiver. Audition waiver letters will be sent to selected students in November.
Musicians must present at least one work that demonstrates the applicant's level of proficiency. MSBOA Solo and Ensemble Festival repertoire is suitable.
2) Record the audition
At the beginning of the audition recording, please clearly state:
- the applicant’s full name
- the titles, movements and composers of the pieces performed
The same information should be labeled on the CD, DVD or tape as well as case the casing.
3) Complete an application
Apply online ($45 application fee) or by mail ($60 application fee).
4) Submit audition materials (and application, if applying by mail):
