Overview

The Junior General Arts program provides a rich and diverse experience within the arts. Participants in the General Arts Program take a two-period Global Arts Studio and three other electives from areas such as Visual Arts, Music, Dance, Theatre, Creative Writing, Environmental Exploration or additional recreation. The Global Arts Studio is an interdisciplinary course utilizing the visual arts to investigate cultures from around the world. Students learn about different cultures by studying different art techniques from a variety of points across the globe. The course encompasses numerous art activities that may include working with fibers, printmaking, sculpture, drawing or painting. By studying approaches to art-making from around the world, students can explore issues of who we are, the world in which we live, and our ability to interpret those things important to us. With an emphasis on a cultural approach to the arts, this course is designed to give young artists a diverse experience in the arts and establish the creative arts as an important tool for learning.
