Overview
Motion Picture Arts provides students with a progressive and interdisciplinary experience in filmmaking. Students will develop a deeper understanding of visual storytelling and the fundamental components of cinema in screenwriting and production. All fully completed works are featured in an end of camp screening showcase in the DeRoy Center for Film Studies state-of-the-art projection space.
Details
The MPA Production Program offers students six hours of daily instruction and lab time for technical production and postproduction skills. Preparatory classes culminate in location productions.
Production Program Features:
- Film History
- Production Workshop
- Postproduction
- Tech Skills Lab
MPA Production Equipment
Production majors are encouraged, though not required, to bring their own laptops, with the understanding that MPA is an all Apple Macintosh environment using Final Cut Pro for video editing and Final Draft for screenwriting. Students' cameras and laptops will not be used for daily location production or editing Motion Picture Arts projects. Students' equipment allows for individual practice of skills learned in class.
Facilities
This DeRoy Center for Film Studies is a state-of-the-art facility that houses the Motion Picture Arts program. It is the first and only building of its kind dedicated to film education at the secondary school level.
Centrally located on Interlochen's scenic campus, the 26,000 square foot DeRoy Center fully integrates and supports the aesthetic, creative and experiential study of film. It includes a film studio, editing and production areas and a movie screening room. View pictures.
