High School Photography Summer Camp Program ::
Program length 3 Weeks
Dates June 20 - July 11 and/or July 12 - August 3, 2009

Age range This program is open to students who will complete grades 9-12 during the 2008-09 school year.

Session 1 (June 20 - July 11) and Session 2 (July 12 - August 3)

  • Two-hour studio course: Photography: Basic Black and White is designed as an introduction to photography and no previous experience is required. Students will learn basic camera operation, film processing, darkroom basics and investigate photographic composition and print finishing. Students must bring a 35mm film SLR camera, five rolls of 400-speed black and white film (24-exposure) and 100 sheets of photo paper (black and white, 8x10.)

    (Note: First session students who wish to continue in photography in the second session will take Advanced Large Format and Digital Photography.)
  • One-hour studio course: Digital Arts will introduce the computer as a tool for image-making. Students will work with a variety of software to develop ideas and imagery. A portable storage device such as a thumb drive is required equipment.
  • Two-hour studio course in a three-dimensional discipline (view list)
  • Evening tutorial twice a week
  • Visual Arts Hour

Facilities

In 2009, the visual arts programs will relocate to the new Dow Center for Visual Arts. This exceptional facility includes separate studios for ceramics, sculpture, painting, drawing, metals, digital arts, photography, printmaking and fibers. The light-filled complex also features a professional gallery space for exhibitions.
