2008 Summer Faculty

Mark Borchelt
, M.F.A.
Director of Dance, Interlochen center for the Arts. Fourteen year professional career with Ballet West, The Louisville Ballet and the Dallas Ballet. Former faculty member, University of Utah, Southern Methodist University and the prestigious Cornish College of the Arts in Seattle. He has taught internationally and at many summer dance workshops. His choreography has been produced to high acclaim in both professional and academic venues around the country. Degrees received from the University of Utah.

Hannah Baumgarten, B.F.A.
Modern Dance.  Juilliard, 1993, Ben Harkarvy, Dir. Founding Co-Director, Dance Now! Ensemble with Diego Salterini. Dance Division coordinator at Dillard Center for the Arts, Fort Lauderdale, FL and full time instructor of Ballet, Modern, Composition and Pilates. Adjunct Professor, Ballet and Modern Dance, Florida International University. Has performed works by Martha Graham, Jose Limon, Paul Taylor, Anna Sokolow, AlwinNikolais, Mark Morris, Doris Humphrey, Choo-San Goh, Michael Uthoff, Ben Harkarvy, and others. Studied composition under Doris Rudko and Liz Keen. Danced with Utah Ballet and served ascompany manager under Conrad and Joy Ludlow and Janek Schergen, 1986-88. Since 1995 worked with Momentum Dance Company, Ballet Flamenco La Rosa, Giovanni Luquini and Dancers, Karen Petersen and Dancers mixed-ability company. Currently serves as rehearsal assistant and Principal Dancer, Michael Uthoff Dance Theatre. Recipient of the State of Florida Individual Choreography Fellowship, 2005/6. Taught at National and Regional HS dance festivals 2003-present, and for Urban Ballet Theatre Summer Intensive, 2005.

Shellie Cash, M.A.
Modern Dance, Alexander Technique. Dance division head and Associate Professor at College Conservatory of Music, University of Cincinnati. Former faculty member, Bucknell University. Danced professionally with Ballet West, Tanz-Forum (Germany), Theatre du Silence and Peter Goss Dance Company (France). Alexander Technique Teacher ATI certified. Degrees received from Wesleyan University and University of Utah.

Karena Hatfield-Grytting, B.A.
Ballet faculty, Cornish Prepatory Dance Department, Seattle, WA. Ballet and Modern faculty, Bainbridge Dance Center, Bainbridge Island, WA. Dancer with Arc Dance and Lehua Dance Theatre, Seattle WA . Degree received from University of Washington.

Tauna Hunter, M.F.A.
Guest artist-in-residence, Ballet. Associate Professor and Dance Director, Mercyhurst College; Artistic Director, The Mercyhurst Dancers. Professional performing credits include principal dancer with Ballet West, Dallas Ballet, Colorado Ballet and Northern Ballet Theatre (England). Choreographic work performed by the Mercyhurst Dancers, Ballet Concerto, Dance Wyoming!, University of North Texas, University of Utah, Erie Ballet Theatre, D'Angelo Opera and Symphony Orchestra. Degrees received from the University of Utah.

Mary Jo Irbe
Ms. Irbe dances with River North Chicago Dance Company. Before joining RNCDC, she performed with the Lyric Opera of Chicago, and toured the United States, Europe, and Mexico with the Joseph Holmes Chicago Dance Theatre, under the direction of Randy Duncan. Ms Irbe has also been a guest artist with Especially Tap Co., under the direction of Bruce Stegmann, and performed with the touring 1995/1996 season DIFFA Fashion Show of Collection Rouge, as well as Sam Watson’s “Wats On Dance”. She danced in the motion picture, “Just Visiting” (1999), and performed in independent works by various choreographers, such as Randy Duncan, Harrison McEldowney, Jeff Jancock, Eduardo Vilaro, Sarita Smith Childs, and Jon Lehrer. In 2001 MJ received the Ruth Page Chicago Dance and Music Alliance “Dance Achievement Award”.

Rachel James 
Ballet. Graduate of the National Ballet School of Canada. Ms. James has served on the dance faculty at Interlochen Arts Academy and Dance Arts Academy.

Jamie Johnson
, B.F.A.
After graduating cum laude with a B.F.A. in Ballet and a B.A. in English from the University of Utah, Miss Johnson has danced with Sacramento Ballet, Ballet Pacifica, Ohio Dance Theatre and Boulder Ballet. She has performed roles from the classical repertoire and as well as others created especially for her. She achieved critical acclaim for her “fiery and defiant” portrayal of Carmen and is credited for bringing “freshness” to the role of Dewdrop from the Nutcracker. She has taught as a faculty member and guest teacher throughout the United States- notably on staff to Sacramento Ballet’s summer intensive and Ballet Pacifica’s conservatory faculty. Currently, she is a principal dancer with Boulder Ballet and teaches the pre-professional students in the school. 

Kim Neal Nofsinger,
M.F.A. 

Modern Dance. Associate Professor and Director of Dance at Middle Tennessee State University. Artistic Director of Shelter Repertory Dance Theatre, Murfreesboro, TN. Degree received from Arizona State University

Cassandra Richards
Instructor of Dance.

Rain Ross, B.A.
In 2001, Rain founded Lehua Dance Theatre, a leading company in the Seattle modern dance scene. Prior to running her own company, she danced with The Playhouse Dance Company (South Africa), Coleman/Freedman and Friends, and ARC Dance, among others. Her training includes Mount Holyoke College (from which she received her BA), Cornish College of the Arts, North Carolina School of the Arts , Stephanie Saland, and Wade Madsen; she is currently an MFA candidate in dance with a focus on choreography at the University of Iowa. Rain has received various grants and awards for her work as a dancer and choreographer, including the 2004 Amy Award for Emerging Artists. Currently, she teaches ballet at the University of Iowa and has also taught at Mount Holyoke College, Bainbridge Dance Center, Blue Heron Arts, and Seattle Civic Dance.

Diego Salterini
Founding Co-Director, Dance Now! Ensemble. Adjunct Faculty, Florida International University, Dillard Center for the Arts, and Casa Dei Bambina, Montessori Environment teaching Modern Dance and Modern Jazz . Italian television and taught throughout Italy and Europe at studios such as I.A.L.S. and Pineapple Covent Garden. Studied with Roberto Salaorini, Mamy Raoemeria, Ranko Yokoyama, Luc Buic, Michelle Ellis, and Flavio Bennati. Dance with Momentum Dance Company, Karen Petersen and Dancers, Zanadu, Kevin Black Productions, Ballet Flamenco La Rosa, and Michael Uthoff Dance Theatre as Principal Dancer.

Leslie E. Williams, M.F.A.

Modern. Assistant Professor of Dance at West Texas A&M University Canyon, TX. Dances professionally with Peter Sparling Dance Company. Degrees received from West Texas A&M University and University of Michigan. Interlochen Arts Camp and Interlochen Arts Academy alum.
