Overview
The Advanced Bassoon Institute provides an opportunity for serious bassoonists to spend a week of intensive study with three of America's leading bassoon pedagogues: George Sakakeeny, Eric Stomberg and William Winstead. Admission is limited to 24 participants and 16 auditors.
Applicants who apply by February 1 will be notified of admission decisions by March 15. Late applicants will be notified on a rolling basis.
Details
- Daily master classes will focus on solo repertoire, etudes and orchestral excerpts.
- Each student will receive private lessons with special attention given to reed work.
- Evening performances by faculty members will be a highlight of the week.
Participants will:
- perform in two master classes
- have one private lesson with an Institute Faculty Member
- take part in reed-making classes
- play in bassoon chamber music ensembles
Auditors will:
- attend master classes
- have one private lesson with an Institute Teaching Assistant
- take part in reed-making classes
- play in bassoon chamber music ensembles
Curriculum: A packet will be sent in advance, outlining the etudes, solo repertoire and excerpts to be assigned to participants for class performances.
Audition Requirements
- Record two solo works of contrasting style on a CD or DVD.
- Submit the audition and label the recording and its casing with the applicant's full name, "Institute Division," instrument and repertoire presented.
