High School Advanced Drawing Summer Camp Program ::

Age range This program is open to students who will complete grades 9-12 during the 2008-09 school year.

Overview

The Advanced Drawing Intensive program is for students with previous drawing experience and established skills. The program focuses exclusively on drawing materials and techniques. Students will explore composition, process and the elements of drawing and contemporary design.

  • Drawing foundations and techniques
  • Approaches to drawing from life
  • Methods of abstraction in drawing
  • Figure-drawing and the human form
  • Visual Arts Hour
  • Participation in the weekly figuredrawing studio is encouraged
  • Evening tutorial twice a week

Facilities

In 2009, the visual arts programs will relocate to the new Dow Center for Visual Arts. This exceptional facility includes separate studios for ceramics, sculpture, painting, drawing, metals, digital arts, photography, printmaking and fibers. The light-filled complex also features a professional gallery space for exhibitions.

Portfolio Requirements

  • Submit a minimum of five images that represent the applicant's highest quality of work. Three pieces must be made from direct observation (drawn from life) and may be in any medium.
  • Portfolios may be submitted: By email to admission@interlochen.org with the subject line "Advanced Drawing Portfolio" and the applicant's full name. By US mail or parcel post photographs, slides or CDs must be labeled with "Advanced Drawing Portfolio" and the applicant's full name on each item.

Portfolio materials will not be returned. Please do not send original work.

Note: applicants who submit a portfolio for the Advanced Drawing Intensive program and wish to continue into the three week Advanced Painting Intensive program DO NOT need to send another portfolio.
