Script ::

Sundown at Four a.m. 

Cast
ELENA: 40s, mother of Jason
JASON: early 20s
     
Setting
Couch, and large window behind the couch that shows the light, or lack thereof, outside.
       
SCENE I
     
ELENA is curled up on the couch in a blanket, looking out the window. A stuffed dog is at her feet. A suitcase is propped up against the couch. JASON at SL (kitchen area) making coffee. JASON is dressed in very crisp, very clean-looking clothes.
JASON.   Mom, stay awake.
ELENA.   I’m awake. (Beat. JASON peers into an obnoxiously oversized mug and begins scrubbing it out.)
JASON.   Did you use the sponge on this?
ELENA.   I don’t know—maybe.
JASON.   There’s coffee rings on the inside. You should use the scrubber. (JASON dries the mug, pours the coffee, and walks over to the couch.)
ELENA.   Is that another “Alaska” mug? With what money are you still buying that touristy junk?
JASON.   I’ve got a little left on my credit card.
ELENA.   Can’t be much.
JASON.   Anyway this mug’s not like all the others. Look, it’s got facts printed all over it.
ELENA.   (reading) “Fairbanks gets twenty-one hours of daylight in June and three in January.” Yeah it’s getting closer to the three. (Pause.) Well you sure as hell aren’t getting your next paycheck.
JASON. You sure you don’t want this coffee?
ELENA.   Thanks, I’m okay—(In handing the mug over to ELENA, JASON moves too quickly and some of it slops over and gets on the stuffed dog.)
JASON. Shit! (JASON runs back to SL for paper towels and stain remover.) I didn’t mean
