MPA Portfolio Requirements ::
Submit both of the following:
  • A critical essay (not a review), one to three pages double-spaced, standard format, about a specific movie explaining how the cinematic elements (scenery, costumes, character, dialogue, lighting, music and sound, etc.) work together to make a cohesive and successful story. Please make sure to include the title, director and screenwriter of the film.
  • A list of directed or related experiences. This may include current or recent training as well as experience in film or media, and/or experiences with performance, theatre and other arts areas (dance, visual arts, music, writing). You may add a section which explains why you consider these related experiences important to your interest in film.
Submit one of the following:
  • A sample screen or a stage play of up to ten pages.
  • A sample film of up to ten minutes on DVD or VHS (US format)
  • A written treatment (1-2 pages) and/or verbal pitch on video (1-2 minutes) of an original story idea you would like to see made into a film. A treatment is simply the story written out in a short, straight-forward way. A pitch is a verbal telling of the story. Both should answer these basic questions: What is the story about? Who are the main characters? What are the conflicts? What type of film is it? How does it end?
