Fundamentals of Design is a studio class that addresses elements of design as well as principles of design in relation to the theatre. The student will work with script analysis and research techniques for the theatrical designer.
Topics include: design approach and process, text analysis, fundamentals of scenic design, specialized make-up and effects, fundamentals of costume design, fundamentals of lighting design, and fundamentals of sound design.

Independent studies will be organized and graded by the Technical Theatre faculty member in conjunction with the campus supervisor (personnel of the Costume Shop, IPR Productions, Corson Production Services, individual faculty director, and/or other designated instructor). Apprenticeships may incorporate tests and approaches described in those design courses listed above.
