Instructor of Physical Education/Coordinator of Leisure Arts ::
Interlochen Center for the Arts, one of America’s oldest and most prestigious institutions for arts education, performance, and fine arts presentations, seeks a full-time Instructor of Physical Education/Coordinator of Leisure Arts. The ideal candidate is a highly energetic, motivated and visible instructor who is dedicated to providing creative and challenging instruction.

DESCRIPTION: Physical Education and Leisure Arts (Academy) Provide instruction for two physical education classes each semester and independent study students. Manage evening recreation program. Maintain equipment inventory for classes and activities; supervise fitness room/gym and equipment (maintenance, proper use/instruction). Oversee community service students who assist in monitoring the fitness room and gym. Oversee the student activities program (supervise the student activities manager and a committee of hall counselors). Organize and oversee master schedule of activities. Supervise student activities community service students designed to get the students involved in weekend programming and student events. This position works closely with the student services staff and others as a part of the school’s overall wellness program. Actively seek opportunities to invite guests from off campus to provide programming and seek opportunities that allow students to participate in off-campus programming.

Challenge Course, Recreation, Crafts and Waterfront (Camp) Oversee and supervise camp divisional recreation and waterfront programs. Hire, oversee and supervise the waterfront manager, lifeguards/small craft instructors the recreation manager and recreation/challenge course staff. Develop, monitor and ensure all safety practices for the waterfront, boating program and recreation program. Order and maintain supplies, services and equipment for the all programs. Organize and oversee a master schedule of trips and food orders for all divisions needing recreational picnic or meal replacements. Work cooperatively with the maintenance department to maintain recreational areas and equipment. Manage the challenge course including inspections, equipment, staff training, scheduling, and implement an adventure curriculum to use on the challenge course. Ensure the course stays running up to institutional and as well as national standards. Hire, oversee and supervise the craft program, including a lead craft Instructor and two instructors. Develop, monitor and insure all safety practices for the program; order and maintain supplies, services and equipment.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelors degree with major in Physical Education, Recreation, Leisure Arts or related field required. Previous teaching and adventure course facilitating experience preferred. Ability to serve as the Challenge Course Manager (CCM) according to Association for Challenge Course Technology (ACCT) National Standards (a minimum of 500 hours of facilitation experience, 80 hours of documented training and 30 hours of managerial training.). Michigan teaching certification or evidence of eligibility for certification strongly recommended.
