Interlochen Center for the Arts seeks a Director/Instructor for its Creative Writing Division.

A key administrator for the institution, the director is responsible for all aspects of the creative writing program for two of its core educational programs: Interlochen Arts Academy and the Interlochen Arts Camp. Target enrollment in the creative writing program at the Arts Academy is 40-46 students with 3-4 faculty including a writer-in-residence. Target summer enrollment for creative writing majors is approximately 64 students at any give time, plus other non-creative writing students, with 7 faculty. Responsibilities: This administrative and faculty position, reports to the Vice President for Education Programs. The 12-month administrative responsibilities include recruiting, hiring, orienting and evaluating writing faculty and staff; providing direction for the writing curriculum; developing and managing the annual departmental budget; scheduling and engaging guest writers and readings; and networking with others in the recruitment and development of students. This individual will also teach two to three classes, (1 workshop and 1-2 electives per day) during the Arts Academy school year. Areas of study in creative writing include fiction, non-fiction, poetry, playwriting, screenwriting and a variety of electives, some changing from year to year. The central component of the program is the workshop which rotates between fiction and poetry, and includes extensive individual tutorial time.
All faculty are expected to work with the students outside of their teaching responsibilities, compensating for parental absence and assisting the residence hall staff in the development of students' total experience at Interlochen.
Qualifications: Advanced degree (MA or MFA) and a Michigan secondary teaching certificate (or eligibility to acquire) is preferred. The successful candidate will have proven teaching and administration experience with significant knowledge of writing and secondary education on the national level. Professional writing experience and publishing credentials is also required and will be strongly considered.
