2009 Camp positions
Visual Art Assistants, 10 positions: (Base wage $1,000)
Assist instructors in a variety of visual arts classes, manage studios, and assist with various other aspects of the program. Duties include studio preparation, inventory of supplies, assist with studio instruction, assisting with weekly exhibitions and studio clean up. Art Assistants work an average of 7 hour per day including attendance of a weekly pedagogy seminar and helping to monitor evening open studios. Also assist with the department's public and community programs including Visual Arts Hour and Collage. Art Assistants have the opportunity to produce and show personal work as well as working along side a dedicated and experienced faculty. This is an excellent opportunity for an individual who plans to pursue a career in the arts or teaching. A background in studio art is recommended and a degree in art is viewed favorably. Studio Technician, 1 position: (Base Wage $2,800 plus room and board)
Manage all visual arts studios, kiln operations and assist the Director in program operations. Duties include: studio preparation and set-up, coordinating ceramics and sculpture areas, managing kiln technicians, shipping and receiving, managing supply inventories and has the opportunity to produce and show personal work as well as working along side a dedicated and experienced faculty and staff. A strong background in ceramics is required and applicants should also have some experience with other areas such as sculpture (including welding), printmaking or photography. Start date is June 12th, 2008. Required for application: seasonal application. three Interlochen reference forms and also include up to 10 images of own work (slides or jpeg's).
Kiln Technician, 3 position: (Base Wage $1,600 plus room and board)
Manage kiln operations and assist the ceramics and sculpture studios from a technical standpoint. Duties include: studio preparation and set-up, loading, unloading and firing kilns in coordination with the demands of the ceramics and sculpture studios, mix clay for classes, mangae clay storage, inventory supplies, and studio clean up. Kiln technicians work an average of 8 hours per day but schedules are often adjusted to accomodate the busy programs and the various firing schedules assigned. Also assist with the department's public and community programs as appropriate including Visual Arts Hour and Collage. Kiln techs have the opportunity to produce and show personal work as well as work along side a dedicated and experienced faculty and staff. A strong background in ceramics is required and applicants will be required to verify their knowledge of operating kilns and the technical aspects of the medium. Start date is June 19th, 2008. Collaborative Pianists, 23 positions: (Base wage $1,200-$1,500 commensurate with collegiate degree).
Rehearse and perform with exceptionally talented high school students from across the country in several specialized areas including vocal coaching and accompanying, instrumental accompanying, choral accompanying, dance accompanying and light opera and musical theater repertoire. Applicants should be able to learn new music quickly as well as demonstrate good sight reading and leadership skills. Up to 25 contact hours a week will be assigned; additional participation in conversational German language study and performance opportunities with staff available. Required for application: seasonal application. three Interlochen reference forms , resume, list of vocal and instrumental repertoire and a sound recording of two contrasting works. Tapes/CD’s will not be returned. Application deadline is February 1st.
Ensemble Manager, 5 positions (High School Band, High School Orchestra, High School Choir, Junior and Intermediate Ensembles: (base wage $1000)
Primarily an administrative position that reports to the ensemble conductors; oversees attendance and personnel issues for multiple ensembles within each divisional area; tracks rehearsal location, time and set-up; facilitates communication between campers, faculty and directors; assists with determining needs and fulfillment for special events and activities; interface with library staff, program office, stage managers and instrument services personnel; communicate closely with guest artists and conductors during the residency to address any concerns and schedule updates; assist with coordinating sectionals. Other duties as assigned by the ensemble directors. Required for application: seasonal application and three Interlochen reference forms.
Instrument Repair and Services Coordinator, 1 position: (base wage $1200)
Reports to Assistant to the Director of Music; responsible for organizing, tracking and overseeing care and maintenance of large inventory of new and used string, wind and brass instruments; implement check out system for instrument loan, rental and distribution; oversee instrument locker assignments; manage purchase and inventory of supplies, income from rentals and sale of merchandise, and financial record-keeping; coordination with instrument repair technicians for service, repair and temporary replacement of instruments and equipment; collection and retrieval of instruments at end of session or term of rental or borrowing period; facilitate communication between students, staff and faculty; other related duties as assigned. Music Library, 11 positions: (base wage $800)
Duties may include distributing music for large performing groups, photocopying, marking string parts, repairing music, filing music, and circulating chamber music. Music background is necessary; previous library experience is helpful. Forty hours per week are expected for each position. Orchestral String Repair Technician, 1 position: (base wage $2900)
Reports to Assistant to the Director of Music; Diagnose and repair basic problems associated with orchestral string instruments; Rehair bows; Advise campers and faculty as to proper care and safe use and handling of instruments; Determine proper level of repair or adjustment needed to restore instruments to adequate level of functioning either through simple improvements or more comprehensive restorative procedures necessary to return instruments to peak performance standards; Keep daily repair log of everything repaired; Repair ICA-owned instruments when all student work is completed; Shop and basic equipment provided; Minimum qualifications: recent graduate of formal accredited training program, or combination of education and experience in string instrument repair. Piano Technicians, 3-4 positions (base wage varies based on length of assignment and skill level).
Duties include tuning and repair to maintain instruments in playing condition for practice rooms, studios and recital halls; regulation and voicing as needed. Graduate of certified training program, or combination of formal apprenticeship and experience. Must be able to work independently with minimal direction and adapt to a flexible work schedule. Teaching Assistants, 18 total positions; 7 piano, 4 string, 2 winds, 2 brass, 1 percussion, 1 harp/technician, 1 music theory/computer technician (base wage $1000)
Report to Area Coordinators; function as team players in supporting overall instructional program and curriculum; work closely with area faculty to schedule, monitor and supervise Junior and Intermediate practice hours; assist with Junior and Intermediate group lessons, classes and chamber music; observe teaching methods and provide appropriate guidance to campers concerning practice habits and daily assignments; become conduit of information between campers and area faculty; assist with other duties (such as accompanying Junior and Intermediate recitals if piano TA), as directed. Assistant Technical Director-Theatre, 1 position (Base wage $1,100)
Minimum Requirements: Significant relevant experience Graduate and upper class college students preferred. Valid drivers license.
Desired Skills: Position requires someone who is self-motivated and able to work well in a collaborative environment. They should have a working knowledge of and experience in construction practices and supervision. Job Description: This person reports to the Technical Director. Assist the Technical Director in construction, finish, installation, and strike of scenery for High School productions. Supervise the crew, build and carry, rigging, tool maintenance, etc. Attend Intermediate production meetings that perform in Phoenix Theatre. This provides facility support and technical coordination and planning only. They create their own scenery from stock cubes etc. Provide facility support for Intermediate shows in Phoenix Theatre, and for the Junior shows in Penn Hall. Carpenter-Theatre, 3 positions (Base wage $900)
Minimum Requirements: Must be 18 years of age, in good physical condition and able to lift heavy objects. Students currently studying theatrical production preferred. Desired Skills: Position requires someone who is motivated and a quick learner with the ability to work occasional long hours and a flexible schedule. Knowledge of and experience in standard stage production practices. Capable use of hand, power, and pneumatic tools. Job Description: This position reports to the Technical Director. This position will build, finish, install, and strike scenery for High School productions. Scenery is built and finished at a remote location and loaded in to different venues. Provide facility support for Intermediate shows in Phoenix Theatre, and Junior shows in Penn Hall. Required for application: seasonal application and three Interlochen reference forms.

Costumes-Theatre, 4 positions: (base wage $1100-$1900)
Apprentice Designer/Stitcher (1 position), 7 week position. Must have some design experience and have excellent sewing and patterning skills. Will help with design of High School shows, work with director of Intermediate musical to coordinate any costume needs and have possible wardrobe assignment. Super Stitcher (1 position), 5 week position Excellent sewing skills required.
Stitchers/Costume Assistants (2 positions), 6 and 1/2 week position. Must have excellent sewing skills and wardrobe experience for backstage work. Required for application: seasonal application and three Interlochen reference forms.
Electrician-Theatre, 1 position (Base wage $900)
Minimum Requirements: Must be 18 years of age, in good physical condition and able to lift heavy objects. Students currently studying lighting or theatrical production preferred. Desired Skills: Position requires someone who is motivated and a quick learner with the ability to work occasional long hours and a flexible schedule. Knowledge of and experience in standard stage lighting production practices. Job Description: This position reports to the Master Electrician. Assist in preparation and operation of lighting; setup and strike of lighting system in Penn Hall; serve as Master Electrician for one venue. Junior Assistant-Theatre, 2 positions (Base wage $900)
Minimum Requirements: Must be 18 years of age, in good physical condition and able to occasionally lift heavy objects. Students currently studying theatrical production preferred. Desired Skills: The ideal candidate will have the desire and ability to work with children in creating theatre. Position requires someone who is motivated and a quick learner with the ability to work occasional long hours and a flexible schedule. Knowledge of and experience in standard stage production practices. Capable use of a sewing machine, hand tools, and a paint brush. Job Description: This position reports to the Junior Theatre Director. This position will create scenery, props, and costumes for Junior theatre productions. Master Carpenter-Theatre, 1 position (Base wage $1,100)

Experience with digital media manipulation.

Job Description: This person reports to the Production Manager. Working closely with their director they run production meetings and maintain communication between departments. They develop and maintain a prompt script through the audition and rehearsal process. Provide structure. Call the show. Works directly with student performers. Technical Director-Theatre, 1 position (Base wage $2,000)

Desired Skills: Position requires someone who is self-motivated and able to lead others efficiently in a collaborative environment. They should have a working knowledge of and experience in construction practices, production planning, drafting, budgeting, and supervision.
