Instructor of Visual Arts (2 positions available) ::
Date: Commencing September 2008

Responsibilities: Five hours per day of college-level studio instruction in two or more mediums within the visual arts to talented and highly motivated high school art students. Duties also include one evening per week in open tutorial session and monitoring visual arts studios, departmental service and assistance with specialized Thursday programming, assistance with preparation of exhibitions, and other work appropriate to the Academy's mission. Interlochen’s class week is Tuesday through Saturday, with Thursday used as a flexible day to offer classes of varying length, individual instruction, and school and department meetings. All faculty are expected to work with the students outside of their teaching responsibilities, compensating for parental absence and assisting the residence hall staff in the development of students' total experience at Interlochen. Faculty are also called upon by graduating seniors to write letters of recommendation for college admissions.

Qualifications: MFA in visual arts required and college teaching experience preferred. The ideal candidate will be qualified to teach in multiple areas within the visual arts curriculum, and must possess an expertise that includes knowledge of both historical and contemporary issues specific to a minimum of two major studio areas. Studios include metals, sculpture, ceramics, fibers, photography, printmaking, painting and drawing. Experience with foundations and art history will also be considered. Special consideration will be given for applicants who have an expertise in either metals or fiber arts.

Compensation and Benefits: A competitive salary and benefit package commensurate with experience, qualifications and established salary range.

Application: Please submit a letter of introduction expressing why the position interests you, current resume (including teaching experience and courses taught), teaching philosophy, artist statement, sample course syllabi for sculpture, ceramics and other areas, 20 images personal work and 20 images of student work (digital preferred over slides), SASE (for return of materials), unofficial academic transcripts, and a listing of current references to:
