Filmmaker-in-Residence: Writing and Critical Studies Emphasis ::
Date: First Semester – September 2, 2008 – January 17, 2009

Interlochen Arts Academy anticipates an opening for a Filmmaker-in-Residence: Writing and Critical Studies Emphasis for the first semester of the 2008-2009 school year, pending enrollment in the Motion Picture Arts (MPA) division.

Interlochen Arts Academy is the nation’s premier arts high school. Located in the woods and lakes of Northwestern Lower Michigan, the 1200 acre campus is a unique residential artistic community where students study one of six arts majors: Dance, Motion Picture Arts, Music, Theater, Visual Arts or Creative Writing and complete a rigorous college preparatory academic curriculum. Interlochen graduates go on to the finest post-secondary educational institutions and programs across the country and throughout the world. They receive numerous honors and scholarships for their academic and artistic achievements. The Academy has had more Presidential Scholars in the Arts than any other school in the nation, and each year it has a significant number of National Merit finalists. Additional information about Interlochen is available at www.interlochen.org.

The Motion Picture Arts program has grown since its founding in 2005. Each year 20-30 majors participate in a rigorous interdisciplinary curriculum of film studies, including screenwriting, production, lighting, sound, history and direction. Other disciplines collaborate with MPA; creative writers develop scripts, theater students act, music students compose or curate scores. MPA is housed in the state-of-the-art DeRoy Center for Film Studies, a new 27,000 s.f. living-learning community for MPA students that includes classrooms, editing rooms, sound stage, surround sound screening theater and seven terabyte Apple editing program.
