Interlochen Center for the Arts seeks an Artist/Conductor of Choir and Chamber Singers and instructor of voice and/or opera workshop for Interlochen Arts Academy. The ideal candidate should be a highly energetic, motivated conductor/performer and educator who is dedicated to providing a creative and challenging instruction to gifted and promising young artists. All faculty are required to work with students outside their teaching responsibilities, compensating for parental absence and assisting the residence hall staff in the development of students' total experience at Interlochen. Qualifications: A Master of Music degree or performance equivalent in choral conducting, with substantial and demonstrated choral performance experience is required. Additionally, the successful candidate should have extensive experience in vocal performance and teaching. The successful candidate must be able to create an exciting and challenging teaching and performing environment that fosters an intense learning atmosphere. Significant experience as a choral conductor with a breadth of understanding of repertoire, pedagogy and experience appropriate to advanced high school performers is essential, as well as a spirit of collegiality to work with other voice faculty in support of the entire choral and opera workshop program.
Responsibilities: The successful candidate will work in collaboration with the voice faculty to 1) lead the Academy choir and chamber singers, 2) teach voice as class load and schedule allow, 3) depending on experience lead/assist with the opera workshop program, and 4) provide advising, mentoring and audition experiences to students. Academy performance faculty are responsible for preparing students for college and conservatory auditions. Interlochen faculty members are expected to maintain an active performance career and demonstrate high potential for recruiting that both builds and maintains strong performance organizations and studios. Faculty are also expected to participate in a variety of student and campus activities.
