2009 Camp positions


Academic Library Assistant, 1 position: (Base wage $800)
Staff members assist library patrons with finding books and information using the library catalog and other databases.  Typing skills are required and computer experience is necessary.  Duties also include filing, shelving, book repair, inventory and processing new books.  Required for application: seasonal application. three Interlochen reference forms 

  
Scholarshop-Retail Store Staff, 9 total positions: (Base wage $800)
The Scholarshop is a retail gift store.  The store is open seven days a week, from 8:30am-8:30pm.   Employees work 40 hours per week/80 hours per pay period.  Dutie include:  stock work, cashier, housekeeping, stock pricing and customer service.  Contract start date is 6/16-8/4/2008.  Qualiciations:  ability to follow instructions, fulfill our customer needs, work well with others and be part of a friendly and customer satisfaction based team.  Basic Computer skills required.  Candidates with a classical music background or music retail experience will be given special consideration.

Scholarshop-Retail Store Floor Supervisor, 4 total positions: (Base wage $1200)
The Scholarshop is a retail gift store.  The store is open seven days a week, from 8:30am-8:30pm.  Employees work 40 hours per week/80 hours per pay period.  Dutie include:  overseeing the retail store operations, supervising a staff of 9-12 young adult Retail Store Staff, open/close cash register, as well as, performing daily store operations.  Contract start date is 6/16-8/4/2008.  Qualiciations:  previous retail store and/or management experience, excellent written and verbal communicationskills.  Candidates with a classical music background or music retail experience will be given special consideration.

Mailroom/Purchasing Assistant, 2 positions: (Base wage $800)
Mailroom Clerk: Duties include distribution/sorting/collection of daily mail throughout the entire campus, selling stamps, weighing packages, mail forwarding, processing departmental mail and other duties as assigned. Approximately 40 hours per week, schedule/hours subject to change.
Central Stores: Duties include processing all copy requests, maintain Maddy building copy machines, distributing paper/envelopes/toner cartridges to walk up customers and other duties as assigned. Approximately 40 hours per week, schedule/hours subject to change. Mailroom Clerk and Central Stores clerk should have a valid driver’s license. Education Services Assistant, 1 position: (Base wage $800)
The Education Services Assistant works with administrators to prepare for camper arrival, provide office coverage during weekends, assist with changeover weekends, and other tasks as assigned. As needed, the Education Services Assistant will also work in Health Services, Academic and Music Libraries and other administrative departments. Duties include but are not limited to receptionist, data entry, filing and scheduling. Availability during the week preceding camp is a must. Food Service, 94 positions: (Base wage $900-$1,225)
Various positions available such as line server, baking, salad/picnic preparation, dish room, cook’s assistant, and Cook. Work schedule concentrated around three meal times per day. Health Services Assistants, 5 positions: (Base wage $1668 living on campus, $1824 live off-campus)
Assist nurses in the provision of health care to campers aged 8—18 with health needs ranging from minor illnesses and injuries to chronic diseases. Also assist secretaries as needed with tasks supporting daily functioning of one of three infirmaries. Work experiences in the medical field preferred. Three or six week sessions available (must work either 20 or 40 hours/week plus additional hours opening, changeover and closing weekends of Camp). Health Services Assistants that work 40 hours/week may receive on-campus housing if needed. Health Services Assistants that work 20 hours/week will not receive on-campus housing. Maintenance & Custodial Services, 30 positions (Base wage $7.15 per hour, living off campus only).  Employment starts on May 1 and ends on August 30.  Employees can request work assignments from several divisions including; GROUNDS, PAINTING, SHIPPING & RECEIVING, CUSTODIAL AND HOUSEKEEPING. Melody Freeze/Melody Cafe, 13 total positions: (Base wage $800)

Nurses, 12 RN positions and 2 LPN positions: (Base wage $3240 RN if live on-campus or $3840 RN  if live-off campus, Base wage $2280 LPN if living on campus or $2880 LPN if living off campus) Salaries based upon 6 weeks, 2 or 3 week alternatives available.
Work in one of three infirmaries to provide nursing care to campers with a variety of health needs ranging from minor illnesses and injuries, to chronic illnesses such as asthma and diabetes. Nurses work on an average 8 hour shifts (days, evenings and nights) to provide 24 hour coverage plus additional hours opening, changeover and closing weekends of Camp.   Nurses that work a minimum of 40 hours/week may receive on-campus housing, if needed.   Experience in school, camp or pediatric nursing and working with children aged 8– 18 years preferred. Good pediatric assessment skills and the ability to make independent decisions are required. Current Michigan license as an RN or LPN and current CPR certification required prior to start date of contract. Required for application: seasonal application. three Interlochen reference forms 



Pedestrian Safety Officer, 6 positions: (Base wage $8.00 hourly living off campus or $900 contract living on campus, 35-40 hours per week, schedule/hours subject to change).
Monitor vehicle traffic on a busy highway to be able to safely stop the traffic to allow pedestrians to cross. Additional responsibilities may include driving golf cart shuttle around campus for handicaped and injured campers as well as to work with the security department and assist as needed. Positive public relations skills, ability to accept responsibility and work without supervision are required.  Criminal and motor vehicle background checks are required. Physician, 6 positions: (Base wage $450 p/wk – live on campus - 2 week assignments)
Rotate every other day clinics in three infirmaries to provide primary care to campers aged 8—18 years, and adult staff members. Independent practice with on-call every other day, alternating with one other primary care provider. Health needs of this population range from minor illnesses and injuries to chronic diseases such as asthma and diabetes. Nearby Traverse City (15 miles) has a wide range of specialists and a hospital with an emergency department. Primary care physicians and nurse practitioners preferred. Current Michigan license and CPR certification required prior to start date of contact. If a Nurse Practitioner is hired in place of a physician the nurse practitioner must be able to function independently and have collaborative agreement for prescriptive authority in Michigan. Program Office Staff, 2 positions: (Base wage $800)

Primary responsibilities include gathering performance details, properly formatting information and preparing a large volume of programs for concerts, recitals and other arts presentations. Position requires strong computer skills, particularly with Microsoft Word, plus advanced musical literature knowledge and editing/proofing skills. The successful candidate will be an independent, self-motivated worker who pays close attention to details, can follow set guidelines and procedures, communicates well with others, and enjoys a busy but structured work environment of approximately 40 hours primarily worked Tuesday through Saturday. Program Office Supervisor, 1 position: (Base wage $1100)

The Summer Program Office Supervisor oversees the Summer Program Office functions, including 2 summer staff members, and works closely with the year-round Program Manager. Approximately 350 student performance programs are generated during a six-week period.  In addition, the Supervisor proofreads and edits all other programs which the summer staff type. The Supervisor also attends the weekly calendar meeting, assigns numbers to all programs, solicits program copy from conductors, faculty and ensemble managers, keeps accurate records and monitors all activities and work flow in the Summer Program Office. Position requires strong computer skills, particularly with Microsoft Word, plus advanced musical literature knowledge. The successful candidate will have some supervisory experience, outstanding communication and project management skills, be service- and detail-oriented, and be able to motivate others and enforce guidelines and procedures. A typical work week is 40 hours, Tuesday through Saturday, with some flexibility needed for exceptionally busy periods. Secretarial/Clerical
, 4 positions: 2-Health Services (Base wage $900) 1-Business Office Assistant (Base wage $7.50 per hour) Duties include but are not limited to receptionist, data entry, filing and scheduling. Security Officers, 6 positions: (Base wage: $8.00 hourly living off campus or $900 contract living on campus, 40 hours per week with possibility for overtime, schedule/hours subject to change).

Provide 24/7 patrol of all campus facilities/property to maintain a safe environment for students/faculty/staff. Other duties include enforcement of campus parking and traffic policies; responding to campus emergencies, IAF concert parking and traffic and working closely with other departments to maintain safe operations on campus. Positive public relations skills, ability to accept responsibility and work without supervision are required. Criminal and motor vehicle background checks and AED/CPR certifications are required. Stone Hotel Desk, 4 positions: (Base wage $800)
The Stone Hotel Desk is open seven days a week, twenty four hours a day.  Duties include: Front desk quest check-in and check-out, on line or phone in reservations, answer customer general questions, lobby cleaning and baggage assistance. Employee work expectations: 40 hours per week / 80 hours per pay period.  Employee qualifications: Friendly smile, pleasant voice, personal neat appearance, Intermediate computer knowledge and excellent communication skills.   Required for application:

Transportation Drivers, 8 positions: (Base wage $900 contract, 40+ hours per week, schedule/hours subject to change).
Transportation drivers are many times the first contact students, parents, visitors and guests have with Interlochen. Drivers transport to and from the airport and bus station. Other responsibilities may include transporting students to and from appointments in Traverse City and support of other departments on campus. A safe driving record, ability to accept responsibility along with positive public relations skills is required. Drivers may also be required to assist the security department as time permits.
