9 positions available for Interlochen Alumni (IAA graduates from the classes of 2004-2008 and IAC alums ages 19 – 22): Seeking talented and creative performers to represent Interlochen as members of the “new” Interlochen Ensemble for summer 2008. Applicants must be pursuing or have recently received a professional degree in music, be able to perform and collaborate in a wide variety of musical styles and genres, and be comfortable representing their Interlochen experience to diverse audiences throughout Michigan and the Midwest.
The Ensemble will consist of a jazz quartet (bass, drums, + two of the following sax/guitar/trumpet/trombone/vocalist), string quartet (violin-1st, violin-2nd, viola, cello) and a pianist (ability to play classical and jazz repertoire and accompany others). These positions are open only to IAA graduates from the classes of 2004-2008 and IAC alumni ages 19 – 22 who are currently pursuing degrees in music. (Base wage $1200 and up commensurate with experience, plus room and daily meals.) Applicants should possess outstanding performance skills, and creative collaborative skills that can create a variety of music and ensemble groupings. The length of employment is Monday, June 14 to Monday, August 4.
IE players will perform on Interlochen’s behalf in both formal and informal settings. Ensemble members will also present a featured recital in Dendrinos Chapel as part of the Interlochen Presents summer concert series. The Ensemble will also appear in numerous assorted venues on campus and off, in private homes and in casual outdoor settings, as soloists and in ensembles, and for larger audiences as part of Interlochen Arts Camp. Members of the Ensemble will work closely with one or two faculty coaches, spend up to 4 hours per day in rehearsal and practice, and assist in coaching with Camp chamber programs and ensembles on a regular basis. Applicants must be comfortable interacting and conversing with audiences about Interlochen and its programs. Travel will be a part of the Ensemble summer schedule.
Required for application: Interested applicants must complete a seasonal application and three Interlochen reference forms, at www.interlochen.org/about/work_volunteer/summer_camp, and provide a recent audition CD demonstrating creativity and musicianship in three contrasting works. Review of applications will begin March 10.
